About MU'OOZ Eritrean Restaurant and Catering

Welcome to MU'OOZ a new and unique cultural dining experience here in Brisbane.
Discretely tucked away at the bottom of the spiral stairs in Ranchhod Arcade Moorooka (Brisbanes "Little Africa") you will be able to enjoy the tastes & ambience of a traditional Eritrean Restaurant right here in Brisbane.
Enjoy the dining experience of sharing platters of amazing food with friends in the traditional manner, whilst savouring the aroma of coffee beans roasting over an open flame ready to make the distinctive coffee our restaurant is renowned for!!!
You will be proudly hosted by our professionally trained team, many who have a history of being refugee women from war-torn Eritrea and surrounding Horn of Africa countries. Our restaurant was established in 2008 following Government funding approval for our unique community-based project and with the support of many dedicated believers in our Vision.
Called Muooz, which means tasty and healthy in Tigrinya (the language of Eritrea and parts of Ethiopia), the profits from our business are directed back to our community via the Eritrean Women and Family Support Network.
We hope you enjoy our food which we cook from the heart and look forward to you visiting us soon.

We would like to introduce to our customers our new cook, Ms Gertrude Lombato from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This talented woman was born in the north east city of Mbandaka in the province of Équateur.

Gertrude came to Australia in 2010 with her 2 year old son after fleeing the civil war in her country. She fled along with her Auntie and cousins to a refugee camp in Cameroon and finally settled into Australia. She brings fresh and authentic dishes of Africa to the already unique tastes at Mu’ooz.

In the five years since inception, Mu’ooz has provided training, work experience and employment to more than 68 disadvantaged refugee women. The not- for- profit social enterprise also provides cultural awareness to high school students to educate them about the experience of refugees in Australia.

Mu’ooz African Cooking Workshops

The classes we run at Mu’ooz Restaurant offer a hands-on experience, allowing you full involvement in the cooking process. The lessons run for 2 hours, with between 6 - 8 people participating. We try to create a very social, friendly environment in our classes and everyone cooks as part of a team (so don't worry about coming along by yourself).

Our staff will take you on a journey to Africa introducing you to the spices and core ingredients used in our cooking.

In your first class you will discover how we make Enjera (sour-like bread), and create a delicious beef curry called Zighni and a lentil dish called Brusn.

This course will run on Saturday’s for 2 hour sessions which includes dining with us at the end of your cooking class, enjoying the dishes you have created and chatting with your cook and new friends.

The following months will take you on another journey of Africa to the beautiful tastes of Ethiopia, Sudan and  Central Africa.

As a not for profit organisation our aim at Mu’ooz is to employ African women from refugee backgrounds.  Our other aim is to provide a holistic food and cultural experience everyone who attends gaining knowledge of our cooking process and customs.
